Consultation on proposed change to age range at Bramley Grange Academy
Bramley Grange Academy is proposing to make a significant change application to the Department for Education (DfE) regarding the age range of pupils within our school.
As part of this process, we are launching a three-week consultation to gather views from parents, carers, staff, governors, local authorities, community members and all other interested stakeholders. The feedback we receive will be shared with the DfE to help inform its decision.
Our proposal:
We are proposing to amend the age range for pupils attending Bramley Grange Academy from 10–19 to 11–18.
This change would ensure that Bramley Grange Academy operates as a true secondary provision, serving pupils from Year 7 through to Year 13.
Reasons for the proposed change:
- To provide a focused secondary SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision
- To ensure pupils enter the school at the appropriate point for secondary education (Year 7)
- To remove primary-aged admissions (please note – we do not currently have any Year 6 pupils), as there is already suitable SEMH provision for primary pupils locally, including Year 6 placements where appropriate
- To create a clear and coherent educational pathway for pupils through Key Stages 3–5
- Although Bramley Grange Academy currently does not have a sixth form, our longer-term plan is to develop a post-16 offer once the school is securely established. This would enable pupils finishing Year 11 to stay on for one or two additional years, supporting their transition into further education and adulthood
Consultation period:
The consultation will run for three weeks, fromMonday 10th November to Sunday 30th November.
During this period, we invite all stakeholders to share their feedback.
You can share your views in the following ways:

Once the consultation has closed, we will review all feedback and publish a summary of the consultation outcomes on our website.
